As summer will end soon ,I finally got around to sharing this tutorial months after I completed the project.I made a simple Cushion slip cover for my outdoor swing .My outdoor swing cushion did not come with a cover and everytime it rained or there was a party in the backyard ,it was hard to get rid of all the mildew/stains from the cushion as it was too big for the washer.
I’ve been thinking of a cover for the cushion for hygiene and aesthetics and finally took charge. The fabric was on sale for 7$ / yd a decent prcie since most outdoor fabrics typically cost more than that. I bought 2yrds.I absolutely love the bright colors, the mix of yellow ,reds ,orange and blues- perfect for sunny days….
I used upholstery thread for durability. I dont have a template for you guys –my original cushion was a rectangle-it had three sections and a tiny long flap on the back that would go over the swing back rest.So I kind of went with a slip cover that can fold over and was easy to remove.
I made sure I had enough fabric to cover the front of my cushion ,the seat ,backrest and a flap to fold over/slip on the back rest.
I made 4 sections-one for the seat ,one for the back rest and two small pieces for the back of the seat and backrest.I hemmed all the pieces, taking care to line up the stripes(hell..never work with stripes/lines)making sure all the stripes on all the sections were aligned uniformly
I used adhesive backed Velcro strips to close the sides. It fits snugly and I love how it ties all the colors in the birdhouses (check out the project here ) hanging on the adjacent fence.Total Win-Win!!
All I needed:
Fabric -2yds
Velcro strips-already had -1 foot
Upholstery thread in matching color
Sewing machine
